ALTA is dedicated to supporting literary translators at all stages of their careers. The cornerstone of ALTA is their conference, held annually since 1978. They approached me years ago to take over the creative direction and design of their conference materials. A unique theme is chosen as a catalyst for conference programming and is the direction for the visuals of that year. Some of the best results have come out of the most abstract of themes.
In addition to ALTA44 conference design, Fezlab also developed a logo for the ALTA bookfair called “Read the World.”
This branding package / graphics was sent to participating publishers, and journals to promote online in an effort to drive engagement from readers of literature in translation.
In 2023 we were able to have a full in-person, post-covid conference, here in Tucson, Arizona. Many of the attendees haven’t been here so we wanted to showcase what makes Southern Arizona so beautiful and unique. The stylized saguaro graphics were a hit and made it to (locally produced) tote bags, bookmarks, and letterpressed bookplates.
